Stand out from the Ordinary

Our National Retail Manager Jessica Beavon talks about how first impressions are everything and it shouldn’t be any different for your home. So how do you make your abode stand out?

I am sure you’re wowing your guests with your hospitality, but it goes beyond that. Statement lighting, pendants or even unusual wall lights are one way to get the first wow as your guests enter your home. Lighting can make or break an interior space so choose wisely. If this is challenging because of your ceiling height or wiring, try statement furniture pieces instead. A few stylish chairs, in complementary colours or patterns, is a great option, or you can place a beautiful console with an eye-catching mirror. Whatever you choose, make sure you invest in quality pieces that will make a good instant impression on your guests.

Go Green

It’s more important than ever to be mindful of our environment, and in my opinion, it has to be a new way forward. Incorporating sustainable and eco-friendly interior design ideas can be easy when you know what to look for. Certain designers are renowned for their sustainable footprint such as our exclusive brand of Thomas Bina. He uses sustainable and recycled pieces from old barns and factories to create really unique pieces. This is a story you can tell your guests. Upcycling your old furniture is also a great way to create less wastage in this world and create a piece unique to your home.

Personalise your pad

Your home should be a reflection of you, your personality, your culture and your interests. If you want your home to stand out, you have to personalise it. This is what will truely make for a special experience for your guests. Connecting your home with your personality has to be considered carefully, seek advice on how to do this tastefully. It could be as small as an artwork you picked up from your travels or as big as a statement wallpaper that alludes to your cultural background.

Choose Colour….

Or don’t.. if you’re into minimal modern black and white, or even all white this is more than acceptable – it is fabulous. Sleek is in. You can choose to bring colour in other ways with cushions, throws, art and accessories. Adding texture, different materials and plants is important to break away from a sterile or stark black and white home. If you love colour this is fantastic too! The first step is to determine what look you’re trying to achieve – subtle and soothing? Vibrant and fun? Elegant and classic?

Secondly seek inspiration through Pinterest, magazines even from the furniture and artwork you have. Most importantly, test, test, test. Testing colours on your wall is not enough, instead, paint a large piece of board and hold it up against your sofa, table or other items that will be in the room to see if it works. You don’t necessarily want to match, but you do want the undertones to go nicely. Once you have selected a colour you love, carry this theme throughout the rest of the house.

These are just a few tips on creating an inspirational home that makes a good first impression on guests. It is something that every homeowner wishes as it’s always a nice feeling to hear the oous and aaahs of your guests as they admire your home’s well thoughtout interior design.
