District Eight is a furniture brand founded in 2010 in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam. It takes its name from District 8, one of the city's 24 districts, where the company is based. The brand describes its work as contemporary furniture inspired by Vietnamese heritage and designed for modern living.
The range covers dining tables and chairs, sofas and lounge chairs, storage, bar and counter stools, and a small collection of games furniture, including a foosball table and a chess set.
Where is District Eight furniture made?
Every piece is made on District Eight's own campus in Saigon. The company runs its own woodwork factory, metal factory and upholstery workshop, which means design and production happen in one place. According to the brand, it employs more than 1,500 people and uses timber sourced from Europe and America.
That control over production is a big part of the appeal. Joinery, finishes and upholstery are all handled in house, so the quality is consistent from one piece to the next.
What makes the design different?
District Eight pieces are recognisable by their mix of solid timber, soft curves and careful detailing. Many designs draw on Asian culture and craft, reinterpreted for modern homes.
The brand works with an in house design studio as well as international designers, including Jean-Marie Massaud and Michele De Lucchi.
