101 Copenhagen
Kyoto Vase
Kyoto takes its sculptural cues from ancient Japanese and Chinese vase forms, built as a cross of four solid walls lifting an oval-shaped sphere, with a circular opening marking the unfinished meeting point between them. The interplay between the solid, architectural base and the softer, rounded form above gives Kyoto a quiet tension that sets it apart from a conventional vase silhouette. Made from hand-glazed ceramic, it is a natural product, so colour can vary slightly from piece to piece. It is not waterproof, so it is best suited to dried stems or displayed on its own as a sculptural piece.
101 Copenhagen was founded in 2017 by Danish designers Kristian Sofus Hansen, Tommy Hyldahl and Nicolaj Nøddesbo. Drawing on backgrounds in design, fashion and time spent in Japan, the trio blend Scandinavian restraint with Japanese minimalism. The result is heritage-rooted design with a playful, contemporary edge.
